This is the Official Lancair Online Builders' List, originally presented by Rick Argente, and from whom I've agreed to take up the reins. If you are (or know of) a Lancair builder/owner who doesn't have an entry here as yet, please fill out a submission.

Comments 1 week at Lancair followed by 2,500 hrs at home produced a first flight on April 3rd 2004. Because I am cheap I cruise at 10,000 ft. @20"/2100 rpm 50 deg. lean of peak = 9.1 gph which gives me 205kt TAS. The Legacy will go 240kt as per Lancair's claim, but to do it 150 deg. rich of peak per the GAMI folks you are looking at 17 gph. I will take 26 statute MPG over 16 MPG any day of the week. My gross wieght is 1590lbs. I mounted my gear pump behind the baggage bulk head per the original plans and my batteries on the forward side of the firewall. My C.G. came out at the forward limit with just me in it.(160 lbs) I have flown the plane with 340lbs of people full fuel and 187lbs in the baggage area, it was a bit pitch sensitive, this was 1/4" past the aft limit. Comments Aircraft inverted, wings attached and closed, gear complete, horizontal stabilizer, elevators and rudder complete, finishing up the hydraulics, gearwells finished with Zolatone (looks terrific), lower wing surfaces and center section primed and wetsanded to 600grit.Hope to be finished summer 2000.

Comments N360ZR is the first airplane I have owned. Final tally indicates that I spent 3,035 build-time hours on N360ZR which, incidentally, I built in a one-car garage. First flight was on April 21, 1999, with Lancair's Chief Test Pilot Don Goetz doing the honors.

Climb Rate 1,500 to 2,500 fpm. Cruise 180 KTAS (Economy) to 203 KTAS (Go-go fast mode) @ 8,000 MSL.

As of this writing, I have accumulated approximately 100 hours flying time and what a thrill it has been, truly an incredible airplane, one that exceed all my expectations...

Comments Kit arrived August 13, 1998. I got it all unpacked. I ended up having the delivery company leave their trailer over the weekend and I opened the crate in the trailer and took it out piece by piece. Comments Practicing Dentistry is my sideline - it frequently gets in the way of my Lanciar building job. Working on door - pressure bulkhead - wiring - panel, etc. It gets to be a blur of multiple simultaneous, overlapping projects at this stage. Hope to be flying in about 1+ years. Started 2yrs - 10 mo. ago.

Plan to have Sierra Flight Systems EFIS/MFD - 2 screens - Frantz annunciator and AOA - S-tec 55, Garmin GNS 430, Traffic avoidance, stormscope etc. backed up with conventional flight insts. Have built spoiler speed brakes - hydraulic with elect. actuating. Uses cartridge manifold controlled by 12V solenoid and has a cartridge flow divider to ensure synchronized deployment. Have under $1,000 but quite a few hours. Switch is on the Infinity Grip - very nice.

Using graphite hinges for almost all piano hinge applications - the aluminum hinges are in the top of my shop and that's where they'll stay.

Comments We've been at this for 4 years but we'll crank it up next year and hope to finish for the turn of the century. Fuselage is well underway and horizontal surfaces are largely finished. If any of you yanks are coming on down to gods country drop in. We live in a little town with 20,000 popn which is about 190nm north of Perth which is the capital of Western Australia. We are interested in hearing about anybodies experiences with avionics as thats the next battle we face. Who does a good job has anybody used Gulf Coast Avionics and do they do a good job? We are thinking of using an Archangel EFIS for engine and nav data etc but arent much interested in the moving map stuff as we dont need it in Australia. How reliable is this stuff and is it worth the money? Has anybody been considering that German Zoche diesel for the 4P rather than the TSIO 550? Technically it looks good. Insurance has been a big concern for us, anybody have anything good to say any contacts for this? We are interesed in anything that you want to pass on. Look forward to hearing from you all.

Comments I'm a retired software engineer. I purchased the plane at Oshkosh in 1995, with 40 hrs on airframe and 1600 hrs on engine. I converted from O235 to IO320 after flying the plane about 200 hrs. Now have 535 hrs on the IO320. Comments Abandoned the idea of building it in half a garage. Finished my workshop garage addition last month and have started counting construction hours in Feb '99. Concepts I am working with are: Don't think, build. Get it flying, quick, simple and cheap.

I currently intend to build it as an O-200 fixed pitch equipped for day VFR. The existance of a second seat and controls are still debatable. Now this will definitely qualify me as a "lone nut" on the other end of the builder's spectrum.

Manuals are severely lacking in details and informatoin so I am already frustrated. Fatocry has good support but I do not want to wait to build and have to call all of the time. Not good this soon out of thebox but I'll get over it. No building experience just want to fly!!. Lancair Avionics is EXPENSIVE!!.. Any reliable alternatives? I would appreciate ANY tips, suggestions, guidance, direction, ideas, you name - I'm not bashful, I need all the help I can get!!

Comments I have been looking forward to starting on a IV-P for some time. Two preliminary steps had to be taken care of first: #1 I married a woman who claims to be 100% supportive of the project. #2 I bought a house with a 3 car attached garage. We move in 10/98. We both work full time so we are projecting the better part of the next decade before completion. I rent an Arrow on a regular basis and hope to add a lot of PIC hours before completion. I understand that insurance is going to be a problem when the time comes. We probably won't get started until early to mid '99 but if anyone has any words of advice before we take the plunge, they would be greatly appreciated.

Comments I have been flying since March 1999 and now have over 700 hours on the plane. After flying seven years on the original panel, I am now changing over to the Chelton dual screens, which accounts for the increase in the amount spent on building. The speed of the airplane allows flight from one side of the country to the other and back in about 25 hours, stopping at numerous locations to visit family and friends. What a wonderful design!

Comments We have a LLC, LIVP-T with 4 of us who did the fast build at Lancair and then worked with Matt Collier at Fibrecraft to finish up the plane. Panel and avionics by Lancair Avionics, painted by Tom Conner and upholstery by Jim Griffin it is truly a show plane. The plane was completed in just under one year from when we took delivery of the fast build kit. First flight was made by Dave Morss on October 12th 2002. We hope to have it at Oshkosh this year after almost a year of engine/prop challenges.

Comments First flight of N82500 was Feb, 99, and it was sold in Oct, 99, after about 80 hours of fabulous flying, including 2 trips to FL, 1 to WI, and 1 to CA. It's a great plane to fly, with very predictable handling and nice habits in the pattern. Kit #2 arrived in Mar, 2000, and is about half-way along, with wings, HStab, and all control surfaces completely painted, wings on, and construction proceeding furiously (some days).

First flight was August '97. Now have 365 hours of trouble-free flying. Fuel capacity of 54 gallons usable allows for 1,000+ NM at long-range cruise speed of 170 KTAS @ 2600 RPM & 8 GPH. Normal cruise speed is 185 KTAS @ 2700 RPM & 9.2 GPH. Demuth prop - excellent... Needs a constant-speed or variable-pitch prop for better takeoff and climb performance. Now takeoff is about 1,000' and climb is about 1400 FPM @ 105 KIAS at gross weight at sea level standard day. Solo with full header climbs at about 2000 FPM. Normal cruise climb (for over-the-nose visibility) is 130 KIAS and yields 1300 FPM at sea level.

Presently have 404 hours on my bird. Had to overhaul carbeurator, but otherwise has been trouble-free. Still get 185 KTAS most of the time at 2700 RPM at 9 GPH. Longest non-stop trips were: MYF-BFI (965 NM) 5.5 hours and BFI-MYF (965 NM) 6.1 hours each at long-range-cruise (2550 RPM & 170 KTAS & 7.5 GPH)

It's now April 2000 and am rapidly approaching the 600 hour mark on my Lancair-235/320. First flight was August 1997. No problems except had to go to Champion REM37RY plugs to get away from a fouling problem. Problem solved. Also added an Aircraft Spruce oil separator to the breather system and have almost zero oil consumption. Still need to install an autopilot, but would rather have a constant speed prop.

It's now March, 2007 and annual number 10 is rapidly approaching. Hard to believe it's been that long. A bit over 1300 hours on the plane so far. No problems with the airframe - just the "certified" parts, such as cylinders, magnetos, carbeurator, mag switch. Never get tired of flying my Lancair.
